Student Ministries will host the annual Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday, February 28, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm in Founders Court. Proceeds will benefit community mission projects.
ASH WEDNESDAY WORSHIP SERVICES
We will officially kick off Lent, the season of preparation prior to Easter, on March 1, with two Ash Wednesday worship services in the sanctuary. The first will be a brief service at 6:30 am, then a second service at 7:00 pm with the Chancel Choir; both will include the imposition of ashes.
March 1, 7:30 am to 10:00 pm
Walk the Prayer Labyrinth on Ash Wednesday. The labyrinth will be in Asbury Hall all day, beginning after the first service (see above). It is a personal and spiritual experience as you worship and praise God, moving toward the center of the labyrinth with God and walking back out toward the world, praying for others. The Prayer Team invites you to walk the labyrinth and pray as a special way to begin your Lent devotions.
March 5, 9:30 and 10:50 am in the Sanctuary
Christian composer Mary McDonald will lead the Chancel Choir and Chamber Ensemble in two sacred Lenten worship concerts on Sunday, March 5 at 9:30 and 10:50 am in the sanctuary. Mary is the composer of more than 600 published choral anthems, several Christmas and Easter cantatas, and numerous keyboard collections, and serves as an editorial consultant for Lorenz Music Publishing. She is also active as a choral clinician, traveling throughout the United States conducting workshops and concertizing.
All are invited to a Chili Cook Off and Car Show on March 4, sponsored by the Lakewood Men’s Group. The event will start with the chili cook off (teams needed!) and car show at 3:00 pm, followed by a FREE dinner with dancing from 5:00 - 7:00 pm in Asbury Hall. It’s a family friendly day, so y’all come!
Teams are forming now! $20 per entry, contact Dave Throckmorton or stop by the Commons on Sunday to sign up!
We are Digging Deeper at Lakewood in 2017. Follow our link above to "Daily Readings" as we dig deeper into the book of Matthew through Easter. This is a great way for the entire community of faith at Lakewood to Dig Deeper together on a daily basis. Sermons will be based each week on the previous week's readings.
You can also join a Winter Bible Study, Class or Group for the winter/spring term. Sign ups have begun in the commons and online. Go to our Bible Studies page to sign up.
Our church wishes to convey its deep gratitude for the many of you who supported the church so generously this year. Your gifts support the work of the Kingdom through our congregation and also around the world. Thank you for being such a giving people!
May God bless all of you as we begin this New Year together.
- Senior Pastor Joe Fort
At Lakewood, we desire to be a community that invites others into a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ by embodying God’s love and grace to the world. Our focus is on making, becoming, and growing as disciples of Jesus Christ who are committed to making a difference in the world. We believe that this happens as we LIVE, LEARN, and LOVE together.
