Dr. Steve Wende, retired senior pastor from the First United Methodist Church in
Houston, will serve as Lakewood’s interim senior minister during the spring months of 2020.
Dr. Wende currently remains in ministry as a coach with Passion in Partnership, and as Senior Executive Consultant to the Strategic Resources Development Group. He served as senior pastor at the First UMC in Houston from 2001 to 2016. Prior to this ministry, Steve was senior pastor at the University United Methodist Church in San Antonio for 21 years.
Steve is a native Texan, graduating from the University of Texas. He received his seminary degree from the Yale Divinity School and Doctor of Ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary. He is married to Dr. Karin Wende. They have two children: Michelle, whose family resides in Washington, D.C., and Meredith, whose family resides in Houston, where she is also a United Methodist pastor.
The Reverend Pam Cline serves at Lakewood UMC as an Associate Pastor, with focus on Caring and Outreach. She works with many or our caring ministries, including Stephen Ministry, the Gathering Place, Second Family, New Normal, as well as grief and adult respite concerns. She coordinates outreach ministries to the homebound, and is also been involved with welcoming and connecting ministries.
The Rev. Cline most recently served at the Lake Palestine United Methodist Church near Tyler. For almost ten years previously she served as associate pastor at the First United Methodist Church in Katy. She is a graduate of the University of South Florida, having a degree in business administration. She also studied at the South Texas College of Law and completed her ministerial training through Duke University and Southern Methodist University.
The Reverend Trish Woodruff serves at Lakewood UMC as an Associate Pastor, with focus on serving in Discipleship, Benevolence, and Pastoral Counseling.
The Reverend Trish Woodruff previously served for two years as an Associate Pastor at Cornerstone UMC in Houston, where she served in discipleship, missions, care ministries, and stewardship. Trish is a graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky with a Masters of Divinity, and Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Business Administration.
The Reverend Shuler Sitsch works with the young adult ministry here at Lakewood UMC, Table Groups and New Song worship. He most recently served at Memorial Drive UMC as a pastoral intern. Shuler is a graduate of Duke Divinity School and the University of Alabama. He moved to Houston this year from South Carolina, and was recently married to his wife Sara, who is a native Texan. He is passionate about worship, forming Christian disciples, and building up the church as the embodiment of the gospel.
Pastor Clay Smallwood has 13 years of experience in student ministry and is a graduate of Texas State University and has a Master of Arts in Youth Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary. Clay has been commissioned as a Deacon in the United Methodist Church and will be ordained in 2020. Clay serves as our Director of Student Ministries. He is passionate about student ministry and helping adolescents and their families to become disciples of Jesus and grow in holiness so that they can change the world!
