COMING UP AT LAKEWOOD
In the past month, our Lakewood UMC family has been an example of Christ by reaching out through
service to our disaster-affected neighbors. Our hearts are with our community as we continue to help
each other recover, renew, and rebuild.
During the month of October, we are inviting each of you to prayerfully consider opportunities of
stewardship by means of the resources the Lord has given us. We will also strive to renew our
individual vows to support our congregation with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.
Our God is an extravagant God. In all of this, no blessing exceeds that of the grace which extends
to each of us by way of the cross of Jesus Christ.
Over the next few weeks, please check your mail, email, newsletter, and our church social media pages
for information about this special time of reflection and commitment. You will be receiving a letter from
Pastor Joe Fort, along with your 2018 “Treasures Of The Heart” Stewardship Commitment Card. Join us in
fervent prayer as we ask the Lord to multiply that which we have to give, and to give from the heart.
Our Commitment Sunday will be October 22. Please bring your card to service and share in a special
service of commitment, as we give over in faith to God so that He may multiply our resources to further His kingdom.
NEW LUMC RECEPTIONIST
Lakewood's Staff-Parish Relations Committee is happy to announce that Misty Celli will become our new church receptionist. She will be assuming duties in the office beginning this week. Misty brings to us a significant background in office and reception work, having served in the capacity of administrative assistant at radio stations in the past. She and her family have been active in Lakewood UMC church life for several years. Please join us in welcoming Misty Celli to our Lakewood UMC staff family.
Please bring your card to service and share in a special service of commitment, as we give over in faith to God so that He may multiply our resources to further His kingdom.

HARVEY RELIEF UPDATE
Thank you for your continued support for Flood Recovery at Lakewood UMC. We are responding to needs as they develop, but the need in our immediate area is declining. We are looking at ways to help with areas further out; partnering with local churches and helping families in need.
We are transitioning to long-term recovery and this process will take some time to accomplish. The rebuilding in our area will continue over the months and years ahead. The recovery process will include construction, hosting teams in our facility, and partnering with other local churches.
Here are ways that you can continue to help:
Register to volunteer in any way; we have a new volunteer database.. Please sign up to volunteer.
Donate to the LUMC Harvey Disaster Relief Fund
Continue to respond to requests via social media or email for materials, food, or supplies as needs arise.
Commit to pray for 1) the community, 2) families in recovery and 3) the Church for wisdom, guidance and resources to effectively respond in Christ.
