COMING UP AT LAKEWOOD

  • Holy week

    APRIL 9 - PALM SUNDAY; a procession of the palms in the 9:30 and 10:50 am Sanctuary services, and Prayer Stations in Asbury Hall from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.


    APRIL 13 - MAUNDY THURSDAY; worship and communion service at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary.


    APRIL 14 - GOOD FRIDAY; prayer vigil from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm in the All Saints Garden, and a Tenebrae Service of Shadows at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary.


    APRIL 16 - EASTER SUNDAY; Youth-led Sunrise service at 6:30 am, Festival services at 8:30, 9:45, and

    11:05 am in the Sanctuary, and New Song contemporary services at 9:45 and 11:05 am in Asbury Hall.


    There will be no children’s Sunday School on Easter Sunday. Childcare will be available during the services, beginning at 8:00 am, for children ages infant to 4 years. Children’s Church will be held at 9:45 am worship hour.

    UMME

    United Methodist Motoring Enthusiasts (UMME) invites all to join them on Saturday, March 25, for a scenic ride along the Bluebonnet Trail going to Heinsohn's Country Store in New Ulm, TX. They will meet in the church parking lot (Jones Rd. side) at 9:00 am and will return by 3:00 pm.


    LAKEWOOD UMC GOLF TOURNAMENT

    Join us for fellowship and fun on March 27 for the Lakewood UMC Golf Tournament at Gleannloch Pines Golf Club. This four-person scramble is open to all golfers, non-golfers, men, women, friends, neighbors, and business associates, and we can help you form a team.     LAKEWOOD MEN'S GROUP DINNER MEETING

    RUSTY'S RUN & SPRING FLING

    Rusty’s Run will be held on Saturday, April 8, and will benefit Redeemed Ministries, a faith based

    organization in Houston that offers restoration services to adult survivors of human trafficking. 

    Both runners and non-runners can make a pledge toward the race. There is a sign-up table in the

    REVEREND JESSICA LAGRONE

    All Lakewood women are invited to attend Saturday with ‘Sistas’ on April 22, 9:00 am - 2:30 pm, in Asbury Hall. We are excited to have The Reverend Jessica LaGrone as our speaker. Many Lakewood UMC women have participated in her Bible studies, and count hers as some of their favorite. You will be blessed with her message.     CRAW-B-Q

    The Pathfinders class will host a Craw-B-Q on Saturday, April 1, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm in Asbury Hall. Enjoy live music and a silent auction, for which donations will be gratefully accepted. Tickets are available this Sunday in the Commons; ticket price will be dependent upon meal selection, and child plates will be available.     We're continuing to grow our 20s|30s Table Groups (our small-group ministry), and now is the time

    WINTER/SPRING BIBLE STUDIES, CLASSES & GROUPS

    There’s still time to join a winter/spring adult bible study to dig deeper. Registration continues online for Pastor Fort’s Book of the Month Club, Epic of Eden, Financial Peace University, Lakewood 101, Parenting with Love and Logic, The Screwtape Letters, and two Lenten studies, Near the Cross, and a special study with guest speaker Dr. Brian Russell. Childcare is usually available with preregistration, so join us!

  • MISSIONS

    MATTHEW 25:35

    Lakewood’s Matthew 25:35 Ministry is in need of volunteers to help work in the food pantry and

    clothing closet. This is a great way to help our community! Please contact Jackie Spinks at

    SAY YES TO THE DRESS

    Say Yes to the Dress will be held on Sunday, April 2, from 1:00 - 3:30 pm. Women and girls (age 4 and up) 

    are invited to join us for fun, fashion, and fellowship as we design and sew dresses for our mission teams to deliver this summer. Please visit our table in the Commons to sign up as a volunteer. Contact Darci Freeman

    SOWers

    Our Social Outreach & Witness (SOWers) team will be preparing Easter baskets to deliver to some of our members. We are in need of small notebooks, pens, post it notes, candy, small stuffed animals, mints, small tissue packs, devotional books and scripture cards. There will be a box in the Commons through Sunday, 

    April 9, to collect donated items.


    A team from Lakewood will be traveling to beautiful Costa Rica to support the small Methodist church in Nicoya on June 10 - 18. The team activities with the members of that church will include fellowship, worship, playing, praying, Bible School for children, construction work, etc. To learn more; contact Jack Aulick at zjwa02@comcast.net to sign up or for more details.


    Lakewood will be sending a mission team to Kenya from July 6 - 19, 2017. The team activities will include a week supporting Maua Methodist Hospital, a couple of days supporting another Methodist project in Kenya, and a couple of days on safari.     The Gathering Place is a monthly program that offers a safe, loving, spirit-led, caring environment for those who are living with memory loss. The Gathering Place allows caregivers an opportunity to have time to themselves and/or enjoy quality interactions with their loved one by participating in the Gathering Place Activities.     SPRING FLING & EASTER EGG HUNT

    Join us for the Lakewood Spring Fling and Easter Egg Hunt following Rusty’s Run on April 8 from

    10:00 am - 1:00 pm. There will be face painting, bounce houses, crafts and more.
