    Sustainable hygiene care solutions + social enterprise training = dignity, health and opportunity for Every Girl. Everywhere. Period. Providing hygiene kits to girls adds 2 years to their education that they would otherwise miss. This ministry meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 1:00 pm in the Loft and works to provide health and hygiene kits for girls around the world.     Sager Brown Mission Trip Informational Meeting

    LUMC will be sending another team to UMC’s Sager Brown Depot in Baldwin, LA Sunday – Friday, February 17-22, 2019. Based on Sager Brown needs and team skills, you will have your choice of many activities including assembling various health kits, school kits, flood buckets, and working in the sewing room. Additionally, locally you may help in a women’s shelter, assist in a pre-school Head Start reading program, visit with and provide assistance to the elderly, and do home repair work.     Israel Trip Interest Meeting

    Monday, October 8, 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Founders Court

    Have you ever wanted to go to the Holy Land and experience first-hand the places we read about in scripture? On Monday October 8 from 6:30-8pm we're going to hold an informational meeting for anyone interested in traveling to Israel November 12-22, 2019 to see what Jesus and his followers saw, to understand the land, climate, and cultural context of the stories we've read about in the Bible so many times. This life changing experience will truly bring the stories of scripture to life! We'll be partnering with Dripping Springs United Methodist Church and their Senior Pastor Adam Thorton. Pastor Adam will be present at the meeting on October 8 to share what the trip is about, what we'll learn, how this investment can shape our faith in Christ, and all other necessary details.     Music Class

    Have you ever wanted to be a part of the choir but a lack of music reading skills held you back? Greg Gathright will be presenting a basic music class every Sunday in October after church from 12:15-1:15 pm in the choir room. There will be a light meal and each class will last about an hour. There is a 30.00 cost for materials. Ages – Junior High through adult.



    Baking Bonanza for Cy-Hope

    Calling all bakers! Lakewood bakers can help support our neighborhood ministry, Cy-Hope by baking your favorite bread, pie,or cake (no cookies please), packaging it in a disposable container labeled with the name of the baked good and if it contains nuts and by bringing the baked goods to the LUMC kitchen on Tuesday evening, October 16th or by noon on Wednesday, October 17th.     Eyeglass Collection for Missions

    Old and New, prescription and non-prescription eyeglasses, cases

    and sunglasses can be dropped off in the far right donation bin in the education hall. They are given to the Lions Club organization for sorting and distribution by groups going on vision related foreign mission trips.

    LUMC'S Call of Hope

    September 20

    LUMC’s Call of Hope mission project is waging war against human trafficking in the Houston area. This group

    meets monthly, making phone calls to enslaved women, offering them a word of hope and a phone number to call for rescue. Call of Hope meets on the third Thursday of each month, upstairs in FC219/220, from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. Due to its sensitive nature, this ministry is only open to those 18 years old and over.     Coupon Ministry

    Thursday September 20

    We are blessed to have a very dedicated Coupon Ministry. This special group of people gets together at 1:30 pm in the LUMC library on the 3rd Thursday of every month to clip coupons that in turn get sent to military families. Coupons are collected in the church office and the Children’s Wing hallway. The military still allows usage up to 6 months past expiration, so expired coupons are okay! Interested in joining?     Safety Training Events

    Sheepdog Ministries is conducting the following safety training events. Both training sessions will last approximately 2 ½ hours.

    Fire Extinguisher Training: Richard Lipham will instruct Fire Extinguisher training on Monday September 17 at 9:00 am. Classroom will be 30 minutes and then each participant will have a 2-5 minute hands-on exercise with the fire extinguisher, extinguishing a small fire. This will be held outside the Scout building.

    Active Shooter Training: Ronny LaRue will instruct this training on Sunday October 21 at 1:15 pm in Asbury Hall.

    Sunday Mornings

    9:15 am Students gather for donuts and time to hang out in the game room upstairs at Lakewood UMC before

    transitioning into grade-based groups for time to discuss and reflect on God's Word. Groups end at 10:30am. This Fall we will be looking at the Rise & Fall & Rise of God's Kingdom.

    Sunday Evenings

    We meet 5 - 7pm at Lakewood UMC, unless otherwise stated, for a time to hang out, play games, and have fun. Relationships are the foundation of Christian discipleship, and Sunday evenings are a great place to build relationships and get to know one another better.

    The Well on Wednesdays

    We will begin our fall with a series in worship and small groups titled "Back to School". We'll be teaching on issues that affect everyone as they go back to school such as time management, peer pressure, social media issues, and more.

    4:00 - 5:45 pm: Hang Time - Games and activities in Asbury Hall (gym) and our game room. We'll also have our study room available for homework.

    5:45 - 6:30 pm: Dinner - This time will be shared with the whole church beginning Sep. 12.

    6:30 - 7:15 pm: Worship in The Loft

    7:15 - 8:00 pm: Small groups - These are organized by grade, with boys and girls together.

    All students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us for The Well each and every Wednesday afternoon and evening. This is a great place to get to know one another and get to know Jesus.

    Ladies Canton Shopping Day! 

    On Saturday, November 3, we will be taking a bus trip to Canton to shop. Meet at LUMC at 8:00 am and be back at 9:00 pm. The bus has 55 seats so sign up quickly. There will be a table in the Commons beginning September 23. A check or cash for $45 holds your spot. Muffins & juice will be served. There will be morning devotional time & games along the way.

    Altar Angels and Sanctuary Servants, two parts of the Visual Design Team, are looking for those who love to decorate, design, and organize! The Altar Angels help with altar design for the New Song service, and the Sanctuary Servants help keep the Sanctuary neat and beautiful. Both teams work on a rotating basis.
