COMING UP AT LAKEWOOD

  • THIS SUNDAY AT LAKEWOOD

    PRAYERS

We wish a bon voyage to the 43 members of our staff and congregation who depart this Sunday afternoon for Israel. Please keep them in your prayers until their safe return on February 28. Please also be in prayer for the

Sager Brown mission team, who depart this Sunday and will return February 24.

The new brochure of winter/spring 2017 bible study opportunities is available this Sunday in the Commons and online; drop by, pick one up, and find a class that can help you “dig deeper” into the Word.

  • LENT 2017

    PANCAKE SUPPER

Student Ministries will host the annual Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday, February 28, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm in Founders Court. Proceeds from the love offering will benefit community mission projects, and all are invited to attend.

    ASH WEDNESDAY WORSHIP SERVICES

We will officially kick off Lent, the season of preparation prior to Easter, on March 1, with two Ash Wednesday worship services in the sanctuary. The first will be a brief service at 6:30 am, then a second service at 7:00 pm with the Chancel Choir; both will include the imposition of ashes.

    PRAYER LABYRINTH

Walk the Prayer Labyrinth on Ash Wednesday. The labyrinth will be in Asbury Hall all day, beginning after the first service (see above). It is a personal and spiritual experience as you worship and praise God, moving toward the center of the labyrinth with God and walking back out toward the world, praying for others. The Prayer Team invites you to walk the labyrinth and pray as a special way to begin your Lent devotions.

SACRED LENTEN WORSHIP CONCERTS WITH MARY MCDONALD

Christian composer Mary McDonald will lead the Chancel Choir and Chamber Ensemble in two sacred Lenten worship concerts on Sunday, March 5 at 9:30 and 10:50 am in the sanctuary. Mary is the composer of more than 600 published choral anthems, several Christmas and Easter cantatas, and numerous keyboard

collections, and serves as an editorial consultant for Lorenz Music Publishing. She is also active as a choral clinician, traveling throughout the United States conducting workshops and concertizing.

We have a new congregational prayer calendar for the season after Epiphany, which began on

January 6 and continues until Shrove Tuesday in February. The word “epiphany” comes from a

Greek term meaning “manifestation.” Originally marked as a feast to celebrate the baptism of

Jesus, Epiphany is linked with Christ’s manifestation to the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12) Please pick up

a prayer calendar at the visitors’ centers, in the narthex, or download here:
