  • Farewell Reception for Daniel Childs

& Love Offering for Church Plant

    Farewell Reception for Daniel Childs

Please join us on Sunday, June 17, as we bid farewell to Pastor Daniel Childs and his family with a reception in the Commons after each worship service. Stop by to express your well wishes as they leave soon for North Carolina. There will be a basket for the collection of special notes and cards.

    Love Offering for Church Plant

It has been one of the many fine traditions of Lakewood UMC to send forth our departing clergy with a love offering. Pastor Daniel Childs has requested that any love offering be given to the new church plant that he has been called to begin in North Carolina. This will be a blessed gift that Lakewood UMC members can offer to his new ministry budget, as he continues in God's work.

If you would like to participate in the love offering for the new church plant to be led by Pastor Daniel Childs, you can visit the table in the Commons on June 3 or 10, leave your gift at the church office, or bring it to the farewell reception to be held on Sunday, June 17. If you wish to donate a love offering for his church plant, please make checks payable to Lakewood UMC, with 'North Carolina church plant' in the memo section.

  • lakewood wins cy-fair isd community award

Lakewood United Methodist Church was very proud to accept the overall Cy-Fair ISD Community Engagement Award at the recent VIPS Appreciation Event at the Berry Center. This award recognized Lakewood UMC's volunteer efforts at Matzke Elementary, our Adopt-a-School.

CFISD recognized its volunteers, donors, mentors, business and faith-based partners during the VIPS Appreciation Event, "Three Cheers for Volunteers!," on May 2 at the Berry Center. Talented CFISD students provided the entertainment before and throughout the luncheon!

Volunteers from Lakewood UMC have been serving at Matzke Elementary since 2011, working with students as mentors, Bus-Buddies, Parent Teacher Outreach team, staff support, banquet leaders for Glass Slipper Club, sponsors for the Awesome Boys Club, photography, clothing donations, food for Spring fundraiser, and much more.

Every year Lakewood also raises funds through selling Advent greenery to purchases 1 book for every one of the 1,100 students for Christmas. These books are then wrapped by LUMC volunteers and presented to the students as a special gift. 12-15 mentors from LUMC meet for one hour with one student each week during the school year, providing support and encouragement. Volunteers also work in the classrooms each week reading and tutoring, as well as volunteer in the library and office. It is our honor and pleasure to serve the youngest in our community!
