Hang tight while we prepare your form...

HARVEY WORKDAY - Saturday, April 21

Lakewood UMC has sponsored TWO dumpsters at $900, and now we need YOU to help stuff them!

Lakewood will be supporting the Harvey Recovery joint efforts of Bear Creek UMC and Cy-Hope Disaster Recovery Network they have dubbed ‘Dumpster Drive’.

This effort is focused on a subdivision in the Bear Creek area where there is still lots of flood related debris needing removal. Lakewood and other churches have sponsored dumpsters and now we need volunteers to help fill them up. There will be a workday on Saturday, April 21, where we will join teams from other churches to stuff the dumpsters with debris.

Volunteers will meet at Lakewood on that morning and carpool to Bear Creek. Lakewood will provide lunch and drinks for the day. Final logistics will be sent out when provided by Bear Creek UMC. This is a great opportunity for volunteers of most all ages.

Childcare can be available for those who sign up in advance. If you are interested in volunteering or have questions please contact Jack Aulick (zjwa02@comcast.net) or email lumcharveyrecovery@gmail.com.

Work Teams:

We are now sending teams out on an as needed basis. Please fill out the form above to submit your name and contact information. Someone will email you when we have a site and need, and you can respond if you are able to help.

Supplies Available:

We have flood buckets with cleaning supplies for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Stop by the office to pick one up. We also have some clothing and canned goods, please call the church for an appointment.

Flood Recovery Update:

We are transitioning to long-term recovery and this process will take some time to accomplish. The rebuilding in our area will continue over the months and years ahead. The recovery process will include construction, hosting teams in our facility, and partnering with other local churches.

Here are ways that you can continue to help:

  • Re-register as a volunteer for a work team; we have a new volunteer database. If you registered before September 14, or have not registered yet, please sign up at the top of the page.
  • Donate to the LUMC Harvey Disaster Relief Fund
  • Continue to respond to requests via social media or email for materials, food, or supplies as needs arise.
  • Commit to pray for 1) the community, 2) families in recovery and 3) the Church for wisdom, guidance and resources to effectively respond in Christ.

If you have questions, or know of someone in need, please contact LUMCHarveyRecovery@gmail.com.

Thank you Lakewood!
