We’re excited to invite 8th grade and older students to participate in Confirmation at Lakewood United Methodist Church. Confirmation is open to 2019-2020 8th graders, any high school students who haven’t yet gone through Confirmation, and all of their parents. The Confirmation process is part of how we grow in the Student Ministry at Lakewood UMC where we ask, “Are you becoming like Jesus?” We recognize and value the importance of the parent's role in a student’s faith development, so we expect parents to attend. Confirmation begins September 13th with a retreat and parents’ dinner and culminates with Confirmation Sunday on January 26th.
Confirmation Retreat (Students): This is a covenant-building retreat at camp Cho Yeh in Livingston, TX, Sept. 13-15. During the retreat, our students will have times of learning, developing their covenant together for Confirmation, sharing in small groups, and experiencing outrageous fun. The Student Ministry staff will be leading this time with the help of our exceptional adult leaders. Details for the retreat, including a packing list, will be provided one week prior to departure. The Confirmation Retreat is a necessary part of our Confirmation experience, and we expect every student to be present.
Confirmation Dinner (Parents and Other Adults): After students leave for the retreat on Friday Sept. 13, we have a time set aside for parents to share a meal, understand the goals, learn what to expect from Confirmation, and walk through the lessons the students will be receiving during the retreat. This time will be led by Pastor Trish Woodruff and is a necessary part of our Confirmation experience, and we expect parents to be present. There is no cost for this dinner.
Confirmation Class (Students and Parents): Beginning Sept. 22, students, parents and other adults will meet together on Sundays, 9:30am-10:45am, in the Scout Building on the north side of the Lakewood parking lot for a time of teaching and roundtable discussion. Pastor Clay Smallwood will present each lesson, and table leaders will facilitate discussions. Discussion groups will be organized by grade level, including high school specific tables, with parents and other adults forming their own groups. All necessary resources will be provided. We will not have Confirmation Class on Nov. 24, Dec. 22, and Dec. 29.
This is a course that requires a high level of commitment for a high level of discipleship, and we expect all participants, including at least one parent for each student, to be present at each class.
Please register for Confirmation by Wednesday Sept. 4 by clicking here. The registration fee is $100 per student, which covers all Confirmation costs, including the retreat and class materials. Money is never a reason not to participate. Scholarships and payment plans are available. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 281-370-2273 if you need more information or have any questions. If your son or daughter is not currently active in our Student Ministry, this is a great opportunity for them to get connected.
We are thrilled to begin the Confirmation process this fall as we connect together and confirm our faith!
