Pastor Clay Smallwood

Director of Student Ministries

Clay and his wife moved after almost 8 years at University UMC in San Antonio so he could join the staff at Lakewood UMC in March of 2018. Clay has 13 years of experience in student ministry and is a graduate of Texas State University and has a Master of Arts in Youth Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary. Clay is a commissioned Deacon in the United Methodist Church and will be an ordained Deacon in 2020. Clay is passionate about student ministry and helping adolescents and their families to become disciples of Jesus and grow in holiness so that they can change the world!

Carrie Bruns

Assistant Director of Student Ministries

Carrie is a former teacher and coach in Cy-Fair ISD, teaching at both the middle school and high school levels. She is married to Chris, a member of the chamber ensemble and New Song worship team, and has been an active member at Lakewood UMC since 2016. Carrie was a volunteer with our students for a while before and has listening to the Lord’s calling to join our Student Ministry staff.

Mistye Diaz


Mistye joined the Lakewood staff in 2017 and splits her time between our front office and Student Ministries. She brings several years of experience in sales and marketing, along with being a previous preschool teacher. She graduated from Texas A&M with a B.S. in Psychology. Mistye and her husband, Rod, have 2 children in high school who are active in Student Ministries.

Hannah Gros


Hannah is a sophomore at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor studying mass communications and public relations. She is a graduate of the Lakewood UMC Student Ministry and is excited to serve as a summer 2019 intern. She loves Taylor Swift, leading worship, drinking coffee, and watching The Office.

Eli Siebersma


Eli is a sophomore at Oklahoma State University studying aerospace administration and is training to be a professional pilot. He plays trumpet in the OSU marching band, like chubbies, the San Antonio Spurs, and Mexican food. Eli is from San Antonio and is excited to be an intern during summer 2019!
