UM ARMY 2019

UM ARMY 2019 is almost here! This page contains all necessary information for anyone going to UM ARMY.

We are greatly looking forward to the week together and are excited to see how God will work in and through us in Monroe. UM ARMY is going to be an environment that encourages us to become like Jesus through serving those in Monroe, worshiping together, sharing meals, and studying God’s Word. Tapp Memorial UMC from New Boston will be joining us in Monroe.

Our host church is First Methodist Monroe and their congregation is excited to partner with us in a higher capacity than typical UM ARMY host churches. Our team from Texas will be acting as a catalyst for their congregation to help build connections with those in their community they don’t know. Then, when we leave to come home, there will be some relationships built that First Methodist Monroe can use to help make disciples. We’ll be doing all of this through home repair, a children’s soccer camp, and a community-wide block party.

  • We’ll have 3 theme nights where we encourage dressing up in line with the theme!
  • Monday night: Decades night. Dress up like your favorite decade.
  • Wednesday night: Favorite holiday
  • Friday night: Favorite sports team

Everyone needs to arrive at Lakewood at 7:15am on Sunday morning July 21. We’ll be driving in vans and personal vehicles to Monroe. We will return about 4pm on Saturday July 27

Everyone needs to bring a sack lunch for the road on Sunday morning.

Everyone needs $25 for two meals:dinner on Friday night and lunch on the trip home on Saturday.

We will be commissioned in both of the 10:50am worship services on Sunday July 14. Please be present in the narthex (area outside of the sanctuary) by 10:40am.

Cell phones and other electronics are not allowed at UM ARMY. Please help us with this by making your student(s) leave these at home. At check in on Sunday July 21, students will be required to either:

  • Turn their cell phone in to student ministry staff OR
  • Give their cell phone to their parent in front of our check-in staff.

All students and adults must have a LUMC Medical Information form on file. If you have filled one out since last August 26, then you do not need to fill out another one.

All students and adults must also have a UM ARMY Emergency Medical form and Liability form on file. Please turn in by Wednesday July 17.

  • CLICK HERE FOR THE MEDICATION FORM (only for any students who take prescription meds) If your student takes medications we need the medication form filled out and turned in with the medication.
If a student takes medication, we need to have medication (in the prescription bottle from the pharmacy) along with the attached medication form brought to check-in on Sunday July 21. We suggest that parents send only the amount of medication that the student needs for the weekend. This will be helpful in keeping up with medication by not having to pick it up when we return. You can ask your pharmacist for another original bottle. All medications will be secured. Please do not pack over the counter meds for your student. We will have these if needed.

All students and adults must have an updated Medical Information Form on file. You can find those at the link above. We have two options to be filled out for adults and two options to have filled out for students. One can be filled out on a computer and emailed to and the other can be printed out, filled out by hand, and brought to the student ministry office or scanned and emailed to Please email all completed forms to Mistye or drop them off in the office no later than Wednesday 7/17.

Cell phones and other electronics are not allowed at UM ARMY. Please help us with this by making your students leave these at home. These distract from God’s movement during the week and therefore should be left at home. If there is an emergency, you will be able to get a hold of your student by calling Clay or Carrie whose numbers will be provided at check-in.

We are very excited about UM ARMY and look forward to what God will be doing in the life of our student ministry through it. Please spend the next few days praying that it is a time that encourages us to grow in Christ and become more like Jesus. Pray for the people of Monroe that we will serve. Pray that connections can be made so discipleship can happen after we leave Monroe. Please also pray for the health and safety of all participating.
