Student Ministries Purpose Statement
(6th through 12th graders)
The continuing goal of our student ministries is for students to experience the love of Christ in their hearts and to empower them through the Scriptures to relay this passion to the world around them. Please click here to view a list of our classes.
Confirmation
Confirmation at LUMC is a program for 7th graders who wish to go through the educational and spiritual process of becoming full members of Lakewood United Methodist Church. Classes for 2008 concluded with Confirmation Sunday on March 9. Information regarding classes for 2009 will be available at the end of this year; please contact the church office for more information.
Exciting Opportunities
We have many annual events, such as Christmas Adopt-a-Family, Progressive Dinners, Senior Roast & Youth Banquet, a spring retreat at Camp Champions on Lake LBJ, ski trips, mystery trips, Super Bowl parties, and summer & winter camps at Lakeview Conference Center.
U.M. ARMY
Mission: To provide Christ-centered, quality youth work camps that serve people in need and promote spiritual growth and leadership development in youth. In 2008, we will be attending the College Camp at Pasadena the week of May 18-24 and U.M. ARMY the week of July 20-26. Participants in this mission program for junior high youth and adults spend five days during the summer, performing minor home repairs for elderly and disabled individuals. Students sleep in a host church and work in small teams to deliver Christ's love to those in need. For 2008, we will be going the week of July 7-11. Pumpkin Patch
This annual October fundraiser offers a great selection of pumpkins and other fall decor, all on our scenic, shady grounds (whre photo opportunities abound. Weekends at the Patch include inflatables for the kids and we offer preschool story times at the Patch during the week; check back here in September for specific informtaion regarding this year's schedule.
The Cinderella Project... Inspired by the King
Throughout the year, we collect gently used prom and homecoming dresses from girls in our area to be distributed to needy students in inner city high schools. Over the past three years, we've collected and distributed over 400 dresses to Jesse Jones High School in Houston. To donate or for more information, please contact Betty Christian.
