Parents of Confirmation Students,
Confirmation Retreat is Friday, September 13 through Sunday, September 15. This is an important covenant forming retreat where we will begin the Confirmation process by covering 2 lessons. Lessons will be continued, for students and parents, on Sunday mornings from 9:30am-10:45am in the scout building beginning on Sunday September 22.
Here are some important things to know for the retreat:
- Students need to arrive at the church on Friday, September 13 at 6:00pm at the Jones Road entrance.
- They need to bring a sack dinner to eat while in the vans.
- We will be traveling in vans to Camp Cho Yeh in Livingston, TX, which is about an hour and a half drive.
- Pay attention to the weather forecast and click here for the Packing List.
We will return to the church on Sunday morning, September 15, in time for 10:50am New Song worship which we will attend together. After worship is over, the retreat has ended, and your students (and their luggage) can be picked up in the Student Ministry loft.
If your student has prescription medications they need to take, please bring them with you to check-in on Friday 9/13. Please bring only the amount of medication (in original prescription bottle) your student will need during the trip. Please do not send over the counter medications, as staff will have those. Prescription meds must be accompanied with this medication administration form.
If we have not received an updated Student Liability Release Form for your student since August 25th, please complete and sign that form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org or bring it by our office by Tuesday, September 10.
Friday night also includes our dinner for parents at 6:30pm in Founders Court. This will be the start of Confirmation for parents. Parents are expected to attend as we will be covering the same material that the students will be covering while on the retreat. The dinner is family friendly and there is no cost to you. Pastor Trish Woodruff will be leading this time.
Students are not allowed to have cell phones and other electronics at Confirmation Retreat. Please help us with this by making your student(s) comply. At check in on Friday Sept. 13, students will be required to either:
- Turn their cell phone in to student ministry staff OR
- Give their cell phone to their parent in front of our check-in staff.
Click here for our confirmation calendar for this year.
Also, every confirmand going on the retreat must have a parent-signed Camp Cho Yeh liability waiver.
Recap of needed forms from you:
- Medication administration form (only for those that take prescription medications)
- Student Liability Release Form (everyone – including a copy of your health insurance card. Attached to this email.)
- Camp Cho Yeh liability release (everyone. Attached to this email)
Many of you know that my wife and I just welcomed our first child into the world. Therefore, I will be on leave for 8 weeks and will not be attending the Confirmation Retreat or the Parents’ Dinner. Fortunately, we have excellent staff at Lakewood and they will be handling these while I am out. Carrie Bruns, our Assistant Student Ministry Director, will be leading the retreat and Pastor Trish Woodruff will be leading the Parents’ Dinner. I will be teaching the Sunday morning Confirmation Classes beginning Sept. 22nd.
We are greatly looking forward to this time with you and your students! Confirmation is an important step in the faith life of students and families and is a part of how we Grow in the Student Ministry at Lakewood. We are your partners in this and are open to questions and comments. If you have any, please feel free to contact us. Lastly, please be in prayer for the retreat and for the Confirmation Class as a whole. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance for our leaders, for safety on the trip, and for God to speak to the hearts and minds of the students.
