Our
Worship Life
Central to everything else in a church's life is the opportunity to gather regularly
to share in the praise of God, to thank Him for His gifts to us, and to hear
from His Word. At Lakewood UMC we offer several Sunday morning worship
services as follows:
- 9:00-10:00 a.m. - Traditional Worship Service (Sanctuary)
- Our traditional worship time featuring the Chancel Choir, hand bells, children’s choirs and other musical groups, liturgy, scripture reading by laity, a children’s lesson (followed by Children's Church for those 4 years old through 2nd grade), prayers, and a sermon by one of our pastors.
- 10:10-11:00 a.m. - Christian Discipleship Classes/Sunday School for All Ages (throughout building)
- A time dedicated to growing in our discipleship through age-level classes from children to adults, as well as short-term topical studies, new member classes, discussion groups, and other programs led by laity and our pastors.
- 11:11-12:15 p.m. - New Song Service (Asbury Hall)
- Our contemporary worship featuring the Joyful Noise praise band, drama, children’s choirs, kids’ lesson, prayers, and a message by one of our pastors.
Traditional Worship Service (Sanctuary)
- A traditional worship time with organ, hymns, liturgy, scripture, special music by groups and individuals from the choir, and a sermon by one of our pastors.
A complete range of Sunday School classes for children, youth and adults is offered at 10:10 a.m. (see Christian Discipleship Classes, above), and nursery care (up to four years old) is available from 8:15 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Assistive listening devices, enabling hearing-impaired worshipers to sit anywhere in our sanctuary or Asbury Hall, and large-print hymnals are also available in the sanctuary by checking with an usher. In addition, tapes and CD's of the morning message may be purchased at a nominal cost by contacting the church office at 281-370-2273.
In addition to Sunday morning services, monthly praise gatherings led by our youth, known as One-20-One (from Philippians 1:21) are also held.
Notes:
The Commons is open for fellowship and ministry sign-up tables both before and after services and Christian Discipleship classes.
On the few Sundays each year on which a luncheon is planned (such as Anniversary Sunday), the New Song service may be moved to the 9:00 hour, with only one traditional service (at 11:11) in order to set up Asbury Hall for the church-wide meal. Please see the calendar to confirm the current worship schedule.
