Lakewood Friends and Family,
We Miss You, Too
It is no secret that the last several months have been bizarre, unpredictable, and frustrating. We have watched as COVID cases have dropped and spiked. We have had vacations cancelled, family gatherings postponed, graduations altered, weddings transformed, memorials distorted, and lives turned upside down. The pastors and staff at Lakewood United Methodist Church want you to know that we are still praying for you with each and every day that goes by in the era of social distancing. We are doing everything we possibly can to return to worship and to a sense of normalcy, but we are also strictly taking into account the advice of medical professionals in our area and their recommendations at this time.
RSVP for September 13 New Song Service
After extended observation, many conversations, and much more prayer, we are pleased to announce that Lakewood United Methodist Church will hold its first in-person trial service in Asbury Hall on September 13 at 10:50 AM. If you are interested in attending this service, you will need to RSVP on our website beginning this Sunday, September 6th. The link for RSVPs will be available on Sunday in our online worship service. This in-person trial service will observe the same social distancing protocol that was formerly released before our cancelled in-person trial service in June. To see more information for the logistics for attending this service, please click on the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfVY8i9C4Dk&t=11s
This in-person trial service on September 13 will be held as a New Song Contemporary Worship Service. We will still release an online traditional worship service that morning at 9:30 AM on our website, Facebook, and YouTube. However, we will not release a New Song Contemporary Worship Service video that morning. If you consider yourself to be a “New Song” worshipper but do not yet feel comfortable attending an in-person service, we would guide you towards watching the Traditional Worship Service video.
RSVP for September 20 Traditional Service
We are also planning on hosting an in-person trial service on September 20th following the continual advice of medical professionals and the Texas Medical Center. The service for September 20th will be held as a Traditional Worship Service and it will be held in the Sanctuary. We will release an online New Song Contemporary worship service that morning at 9:30 on our website, Facebook, and YouTube. However, we will not release a Traditional Worship Service video that morning. If you consider yourself to be a “Traditional” worshipper but do not yet feel comfortable attending an in-person service, we would guide you towards watching the New Song Contemporary Worship Service video. While we all may have different preferences in how we worship, it is always important to remember that we worship the same Triune God in both of these services together!
Hope for Return
We will continue over the next several months to progress through our COVID Response and Reopening Plan in observance of the data provided by the Texas Medical Center at www.tmc.edu/coronavirus-updates/. As we continue to progress through that plan, our ultimate goal is to return to worshipping as we were before the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal and hope is to return to our regular worship schedule, with a 9:00 Shalom Service, a 9:30/10:50 Traditional Worship Service, and a 10:50 New Song Contemporary Service. We are not certain when we will achieve this goal. This remains an uncertain time for all of us.
We ask, as your pastors, that you continue to pray for light in the midst of the darkness. We ask that you pray for healing amidst injury. We ask that you pray for the Holy Spirit to continually descend down upon us so that we can be filled with discernment, grace, mercy, and truth. We miss you all and cannot wait to see you soon!
